A Beer Trail in Birmingham
The Magic City is home to some of the best breweries in the Southeast, each offering its own unique personality and distinctive craft beers. Gone are the days of grabbing a local brew from some garage. Now, thanks to their state-of-the-art equipment, visiting a brewery has become an elevated experience. From classic ales to modern IPAs, Birmingham has something for every beer lover (and even the novice!). The best news is that they are all in close proximity to The Tramont, meaning residents can take a day to go on their own self-guided tour.
Good People Brewing Company
Located in the Parkside District, Good People Brewing Company is one of the most well-known breweries in Birmingham. They specialize in making classic ales and lagers that are both delicious and easy to drink. The brewery has a taproom where you can try their beers, and they also offer tours of the facility. Be sure to check out the food trucks that are on site and talk a walk around Railroad park while you’re there! It’s also a great destination to hit before or after a Baron’s baseball game.
Avondale Brewing Company
Avondale Brewing Company is located in a historic building that was once a pharmacy. The brewery has a taproom where you can sample their beers, including their flagship beer, the Spring Street Saison. They also have a large outdoor area with its own bar, picnic tables and live music. If you get hungry while you’re there, pop over to Saw’s Juke Joint for barbeque or Post Office Pies for a delicious pizza. Check out their live music line up when you go – they often will host some great artists!
TrimTab Brewing Company
TrimTab Brewing Company is found in the Lakeview District and known for their innovative beers that push the boundaries of traditional brewing. They offer a wide range of styles, from IPAs to stouts, and they frequently collaborate with other breweries to create unique brews and limited releases. They have an inviting taproom and a large outdoor area with games and a food truck. Try the 205 Pale Ale or Paradise Now while you’re there – both brews have a cult-like following!
Ghost Train Brewing Company
Ghost Train Brewing Company is named after the historic train that used to run through Birmingham. They specialize in making beers that are inspired by the city’s history, including the Go-Devil Golden Ale and the Terminal Station Brown Ale. Ghost Train recently moved to their new, bigger space on 1st Avenue S. and the taproom offers a vintage feel, with train-themed decor and a large bar.
Cahaba Brewing Company
Cahaba Brewing Company is located in an industrial area of Birmingham and is nestled between the Avondale and Crestwood neighborhoods. They offer a range of beers, including their flagship beer, the Oka Uba IPA, which is made with local Alabama honey. They also have a stage for live music and regularly host food trucks parked outside.
